I have been on this quest for ‘healing’ ever since we lost our boy. I’ve dabbled in yard work, flowers, adult coloring books, working out, yoga, hiking, organizing our messy home and just being healthier. I started to eat better and I started to feel better. Pair that with the working out and I have dropped 6 pounds of the 12 that I gained in my 4.5 months of pregnancy.
What can I say? I liked my sour cream. And lemon cakes.
Then it hit me, my skin is the largest organ I have. What am I putting on it? I used Proactiv for over 10 years and it worked! Except after having to repeatedly buy new pillowcases and towels because my skin care routine was bleaching everything my face touched. Who knew Benzoyl Peroxide is also a bleaching agent. (Right now there are like 10 of you saying “Oh I knew.” Well shut up, we aren’t all rocket scientist.)
If that can ruin my things, then what is it really doing to my face? So with all this healing crap, I decided to dive even more into the world of saving money and getting rid of chemicals. #goingorganic #exceptforwine #icantquityou
I have been using essential oils for awhile now and love them. I actually sell them too, but haven’t sold any because, well I don’t push my hippie ways down people throats. But if you would like some, leave me a comment and I gladly help you.
So here is my newest recipe for my night face cream and why I chose the ingredients:
1 chunk of cocoa butter:
I’ll be honest, I smell like an exotic dancer. But it’s so good for you! It melts at room temperature, so don’t be alarmed when you scoop this concoction into your hand, it melts.
Two dollops of coconut oil:
Do I even have to go into this wonder oil? You can cook with it, take make up off with it, put it in your hair, give it to your dog to help their dry skin. It’s basically the Beyonce’ of all organic products.
2 squeezes of almond oil:
Almond oil is good for those pesky under eye circles that I have been blessed with. Thanks family. It also helps prevent black heads and dry skin.
3 squeezes of vitamin e oil:
Vitamin e is known as a great way to moisture to your skin. I have dry skin already and moving to Colorado did not help my chances of becoming a model any more. Vitamin e oil also is known for boosting skin elasticity and help defend off wrinkles. I did read a few studies that it may no help with scars as many claim, so don’t count on this healing everything.
30 drops of Frankincense oil:
I chose Frankincense because I am 32 and well, real talk…this skin isn’t going to de-wrinkle itself. All the research I have done says that Frankincense can be used to help reduce acne blemishes, pore size and also help prevent wrinkles, and it will even lift and tighten skin.
- In a homemade double boiler (large pot with boiling water and a metal cooking bowl resting on top), melt your cocoa butter and coconut oil down. Stirring occasionally.
- Remove metal bowl from pot (very hot, be careful) and put aside to cool for a few minutes.
- Add your almond oil and vitamin e oil. Stir. And cool for a few more minutes.
- Add about 30 drops of your essential oil of choice. Stir.
- Cover the bowl with cling wrap and throw it in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Until the contents of the bowl harden. Be sure not to freeze it, a way to check it if it’s ready is by moving the bowl-you want the contents to move/shift some.
- Use an immersion blender (you can find them at Target for like $12 bucks) and whip together.
- Spoon into air tight container. I bought these glass cobalt containers from Amazon.
Keep in mind, it’s oily. So when you put on your face, you want to rub it in real good and let it soak in over night. This is something you don’t want to put on your face if you need to put makeup on right away, go into public etc.
