Δ is the band’s name and unless you know how to pronounce Δ, just call them Alt-J (you know like the keyboard command on a Mac). Clever bastards if you ask me. Anywho, Alt-J has a familiar band background: four dudes met in 2007 while in school, fell in love, made music and the rest is history.
Alt-J has been around for a bit but it’s just now gaining attention over here after getting plenty of radio play from their homeland across the pond. My fellow music loving friends have had this band on their playlists for a bit and now it’s time you followed suit.
Their album ‘Awesome Wave’ was released this past September and falls under the indie pop with some synth riffs category. There’s a category for that at the Grammy’s right? It’s a funky and yet soothing album that I find myself playing on repeat. Alt-J just recently announced that they have created a track for the new movie ‘Silver Lining Playbook’ starring the hideous Bradley Cooper and Katniss Everdeen…I mean Jennifer Lawrence and the great Robert De Niro.
There are a few songs that I definitely recommend listening to ‘Dissolve Me’ and ‘Fitzpleasure’ and ‘Taro’…ok or just the whole album. Then there is ‘Breezeblocks’ with the lyrics:
Please don’t go, I’ll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you, so I love you so
Sound familiar? It’s because they come from the popular children’s book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak…which happens to be one of my favorite books.
